PMDO: Icon Contest by BeastGreen PMDO: Icon Contest by BeastGreen
:iconpmdorigins: icon contest.
----------
Edit: Okey since the main file was too big I had to change some thing to make it usable so I had to scrap the whole  spinning thing *sight*
If you want to see the previous one I did you can find it Here

I think It took more time to figure out how to animate through Gimp then draw all of the frames :D

Anyway I enjoyed doing this, slightly sad that making this into a gif slightly ruined the quality of the pictures, if you want I can upload separately all of the leaders that I've drawn, their in bigger size too :D

Well, i feel inferior again...
Whatever, i never expected to win regardless. Digital art always blows traditional art away. (That was a stab at myself)
Good job on securing over 50% of the votes, one of them is mine as well.
Your work is truly amazing

I'll show myself out now.

Oh don't feel bad! :iconspazhugplz: Your idea was good but if the picture were  brighter then more people would love it :)
Do not underestimate yourself just because of this contest, you'll have a chance to shine with your work through missions. :iconyuihugplz:
Thanks for liking my work

Thank you for your kind words, i will prevail eventually.
One other guy told me that i had a good amount of detail, detail that was lost in the down scale.
I will probaly use it as a cover.

Wow, this is nice! I'd totally choose this entry over my own for the contest in a heartbeat! I like how the guild leaders are posed next to their own logos!

But...is this eligible for the contest? The file size is a great deal bigger than what the contest required (and by extension, what dA requires for group icons). It would be great it we could shrink this down to an allowable size, but I can imagine that taking a bit of work.

I did take a quick peek at the file, and I think I can offer some advice if you're looking to shrink the file size. Let me know if you'd like me to share what I know, or just tell me that I'm a nosy and annoying and just tell me to leave. :)

I actually love yours. I had a similar idea with the origin letters but decided to scrap it since you already perfectly did it :D Out of curiosity you animated through Gimp too?

Well I check if it would load and fit as the group icon through my older account where I had a group and it fit. It only shrinks a bit, but it still fits. So I don't think that the admins would have the problem with the size.
I actually tried to shrink it to the right size through Gimp but it always change by a few numbers less or more, never the one that I needed.

Oh no, you're not noisy or annoying at all! I actually appreciate any help I can get with Gimp or Icon in general . If you have any advice I'd love to hear it :meow:

Yes, I did animate mine with Gimp! I've only done it a couple times to be honest, but I've gotten the hang of doing simple transition animations with it!

You're right in that the dimensions should make it easy to shrink the gif to 100x50 pretty easily. I was more worried about the file size though. Does your older account let you use a group icon that's larger than 30KB? Your current icon is bigger than 400KB right now. If for some reason using a file this big works anyway, then there should be no problem!

Here's one tip to start with: Gimp has a gif optimize filter that can shrink the file size by a lot. Go to Filters > Animation > Optimize (Difference). There's also Optimize (GIF), but I find that the first option works a little better. I think you can get the file size down to 90KB using that alone.

I had problems with transition. The Adventurers leader always appear at every frame making it really creepy :D until I figure out that the first frame should be a blank transparent frame.

Yes, it works fine. It automatic shirked it and had the option to enlarge it.

Ohh :O so that's what Optimize does. I didn't want to try all the option because when I was doing the transition [writing random number] and it took it so long that I had to shut of the computer and do over. And it took more time then it should to find the resize option :XD:

I actually don't think the first frame needs to be transparent (mine doesn't). You just need to make sure the next frames cover up the parts you want to disappear in the animation. It's just like switching layers from invisible to visible from the bottom of the layer stack to the top.

I'm glad the file size seems to work for you, though I wonder why it does. The dA rules shown here
FAQ #404: How do I upload an avatar for my group and what are the limitations?
seem to be pretty strict about the dimensions and file size limit.

Hmm well the transparent frame worked fine to me so it's less work. Oh and I just tried the whole Optimizing thing and it deleted some of the duplicated layers and made the gif a bit too fast. Is that suppose to happen?
I had about 50frames and after optimizing it went down to 26frames. Since the animation goes frame by frame and as far as I know doesn't let prolong one layer a bit longer then the rest so I just duplicate it about 4-5times until it's goes the way I like it.

I'm the type of person who presses any button and hopes something works and when it does doesn't question it :D Maybe Da resize it automaticly? Or I'm just lucky :P

Also, if you enter in the frame times before optimizing, I think the optimized version will keep the frame delays.

You actually don't need to duplicate the frames to make the image last longer! In Gimp, you can specify how long each frame holds before it moves onto the next frame. You just have to add the time in milliseconds and between parenthesis in the layer name.

For example: If the bottom layer is named "Frame 1" you can change it to:
"Frame 1 (1000ms)"
This will cause that frame to pause for 1 second before moving to the next frame.
